This model is a tribute to Antonio de Torres. The slightly more compact body size, inlay and decorative work is suggestive in particular of the instruments from Torres' so-called "first epoch" (c. 1852-1870). Zalapa's tribute has a gorgeous, rich quality of sound - across all registers, each note contains a harmonically rich collection of overtones, yet there is plenty of space left between the notes to ensure great balance and clarity between voices. Materials are striking including a striking set of cocobolo with a contrasting sapwood flourish in the center of the back, and along the sides. Playability and setup are easy on the hands and players looking for a slightly smaller build will find this guitar especially comfortable. The guitar is in excellent condition aesthetically and has one small repaired crack, approximately 2 inches long, on the treble side of the soundboard that has been reinforced with one small cleat. The work was cleanly and meticulously done by German Vazquez Rubio.
