Giving Tuesday: Support The GSI Foundation and Make An Impact On Music Education!
Giving Tuesday is here! On this occasion, we’d like you to consider supporting the GSI Foundation – a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created in 2011 – with the aim of supporting music education for students with an emphasis on classical guitar.
GSI FOUNDATION ACTIVITIES
Music Education Programs
Throughout the last few years, we’ve been working closely with our partners, Lead Guitar and Children’s Music Workshop, to provide high-quality music lessons to children in the greater Los Angeles area. Our foundation supports music programs in the following ten public schools: Carlos Santana Arts Academy, Van Nuys Elementary School, Sendak Elementary School, PUC eCALS High School, Holmes Middle School, Canterbury Elementary School, Belmont High School, Markham Middle school, Brockton Avenue School, and Castle Heights Elementary School. If you would like to learn more about the impact of these music programs, you can listen to the interview with Annie Casady, one of the teachers from Castle Heights Elementary School.
Scholarships
Since the beginning of 2020, we’ve also been supporting talented and driven doctoral-level students from the USC Thornton School of Music. This fall semester, we have welcomed a new GSI Scholarship recipient, Robert Wang, who recently recorded a series of classical guitar videos in our GSI showroom. Robert received this honor based on his academic achievements and merits in the field of music education. Our list of previous GSI scholars includes Mircea Gogoncea (2020), Tomasz Fechner (2020), Ashley Lucero (2020-2021), Grygorii Koval (2021-2022), and Laura Mazon Franqui (2021-2022).
Student Opportunities
Together with our partners, Lead Guitar and Córdoba Guitars, we’ve been creating broadcasts in a series called We Are Guitar, with the aim of promoting the hard work of our youngest students and connecting them with their guitar idols! So far, we’ve featured the following artists in our series: Emily Elbert, Curt Chambers, Mia Garcia, Carlos Rafel Rivera, Molly Miller, Zach Filkins, Sergio Assad, Alex De Grassi, and Sergio Vallín.
Artist Promotions
So far, just the year 2022, the GSI Foundation in collaboration with GSI, has recorded and promoted 56 phenomenal classical and flamenco guitarists and released over 215 FREE VIDEOS on the GSI Foundation YouTube channel. Our team works very hard to promote these talented players and increase the presence of classical and flamenco guitar music around the world.

HOW TO HELP
Of course, all of our foundation’s work is only possible through the support of countless individuals who have donated to GSI over the years to help our cause.
Donate a Guitar
Many of us have guitars at home that we don’t often play anymore. The GSI Foundation offers donors an easy way to help find these guitars a new home and raise funds for our above-mentioned music programs and activities. A significant portion of funds comes in the form of guitars donated to the GSI Foundation and sold through GSI. If you have a guitar you wish to donate, please contact us! We’ll assist you with packing and shipping the instrument and will of course cover all expenses. Additionally, you’ll be provided with a tax-deductible donation letter.
